Ok, so I might be getting desperate for a blip given we’re on our 3rd named storm in 5 days! And if it’s not gales then it’s rain - a bit of both this afternoon. Storm Franklin will be at its strongest tomorrow morning. This morning I watched in full and ‘as live’ the women’s curling final that I’d recorded overnight, having avoided my phone and the news so I didn’t hear the result. It was so good to see the team get gold, with Eve getting her gold medal after a silver and bronze at previous Olympics. A calm and steady win, not a close call like some other matches. This afternoon I watched the closing ceremony and The Invisible Man on Netflix, a good adaptation.
Day 706 / Day 25 Post Plan B (for my record only)
The Queen has tested positive for Covid, and is suffering mild cold-like symptoms, with others at Windsor reportedly also having the virus. The BMA chair says ending self-isolation is an ‘odd decision’ while people are still dying from the virus and that we also need to ‘continue having surveillance’. He also said the ending of restrictions is ‘not based on data’ and that ‘we should be protecting people’. A member of SAGE says it’s ‘too early’ to end the legal requirement for self isolation. He said ‘The concern, of course, is with removing testing, removing self-isolation, that may cause quite a big change on behaviour’. Labour’s shadow health secretary said ending free testing is like having ‘10 minutes left to play and swapping your best defender’. The NHS Confederation chief also says ‘it is too early to end testing’.
