cutting back

A cold and sunny afternoon, so I took the opportunity to do some pruning of the apple trees. I've been meaning to do this for ages but the weather has not been the best recently...

The tree in the photo is of a variety called Katy and produces lovely red eating apples. As you can see, its branches are covered with several types of lichen, despite the tree only being about 10 years old.

If you have good eyesight, you might see Jess waiting patiently for me to take the wheelbarrow round to the compost heap. 

Jess is lying on the rug beside me right now - she walked about 4 miles with me today and then ran 12 miles up and down the snowy hills with Sarah. One happy and tired dog :-)
