Life in Sunny Dubai

Local boy band

It's been another hectic day, starting with handing over some gifts for my cousin to take back to Toronto. We were heading to EXPO 2020 (9th visit), so it made sense to see her then. She flies out tonight, having had her flight postponed twice due to bad weather.

Packages delivered, we headed off to the EXPO site and got there in time to witness some of the festivities for South Sudan celebrating its national day, except we got distracted and ended up in Terra, the Sustainability Pavilion. It's the first specialist pavilion we've visited, and it was fantastic! Full of facts and information based around sustainability. I loved going "below" the forest and seeing the underground network/ecosystem of roots and bugs.

We then walked over to the Mobility district as we've hardly done anything over there. So, today we visited Finland (yay!), Algeria, Syria (it was excellent), Palau, Haiti, Micronesia, Paraguay (also very good), Venezuela, Ethiopia and Armenia. We also visited the Opera Pavilion, which is showcasing an opera written by a local musician. The lady in charge of operations gave us a private show, i.e. she didn't let any kids in and restarted the movie for us!!

We could have visited a few more countries, but being Saturday, it was heaving, and there were long queues for many places. Rather than wait in any queues, we just moved on. I think we will stick to weekday mornings when we're free.

We did wait an hour in the Al Wasl dome to listen to a group of Portuguese musicians. If we had the time, we could have waited another hour to listen to a Brass band from Baden Wurttemberg, where we finally got the stamp for the visit we made on 1st February.

On our way back to the car, we stopped to listen to these local musicians (my blip). Home by 7. Phew. Another eight hour trip to EXPO2020!
