Hog's Back
I went to the dentist in Farnham today for quite a bit of remedial work on my long-suffering teeth, driving very carefully given the high winds. I decided it would be safer to drive back via the Hog's Back and the Guildford by-pass as there were less trees lining the roads. I pulled in at a parking space to take these pictures of the view. The Hog's Back is a chalk ridge, part of the North Downs, that runs from Farnham to Guildford. It was well known to Jane Austen who wrote to her sister in 1813 that she had "never seen the country from the Hog's Back so advantageously". She would not have known the Hog's Back Brewery, though, as that is a far more recent local attraction. Their TEA - Traditional English Ale - is a lovely tipple.
