St Philip’s Footbridge (bridge 10)

It’s quite a sad bridge I think, as it doesn’t go anywhere.  The whole point of a bridge is to take you to the other side, but with this one, you can walk across but then you meet a high metal fence and metal spikes - see extra. It was built in 2018 at a cost of £3.1million. The shape was dictated by the need to allow a 10 metre water clearance for river craft. And by the 5 metre height difference between the two banks.  It is Y-shaped to enable a huge number of pedestrians to access the bridge and cross over to the..........what?
It was built to take people to the 10,000 seat Bristol Arena which was going to be built on the island which used to be the railway depot adjacent to Temple Meads station. Part of the original Victorian retaining wall - with giant brick arches - is still there. Rather impressive I think. 
Then there was talk that Bristol Uni was going to build an extra campus there. The latest I heard, is that a hotel, conference centre and some housing are going to be built. Who knows:)
