Iceland - Day 7

The forecast was wrong today, we were expecting cloudy weather and some forecasts even predicted snow, but it was sunny with bright blue skies all day - and a bit warmer when standing in the sunshine.

After breakfast we stopped off to photograph the church before sunrise, when it was still illuminated (first extra). Then we drove to Skogafoss waterfall, we wanted to get there before it got busy and before the light overexposed the falls. It was very cold at the falls, as the water spray from the falls settled on the camera lens it immediately froze. We stayed until we were all getting too cold. This image looks quite blue which is exactly what the light looked like, there was no warmth to be found so early in the morning light.

Next stop was the Dyrhólaey headland which offers great views over the sea stacks. The sea is very powerful here and the beach below is known to be dangerous where people have drowned when standing on the beach and getting knocked over by a wave. The second extra is taken from there, looking one way and the next extra is looking the other way over the dangerous beach.

We then drove down to that beach for lunch at the beach cafe. At last I had my first oat milk cappuccino since I arrived in Iceland, and it was very good. It was so good I had a second cup!

We spent some time on the beach taking photos and then drove to the other side of the sea stacks where the light was better. The waves crashing on the shore made some good photos. Some stayed to photograph the setting sun but it was not that colourful so the rest of us walked back to the hotel.

We leave Vik straight after an early breakfast, and head north west to Snaefellsnes Peninsula and the famous Kirkjufell mountain. I cannot believe I have now been in Iceland for a week, it feels like only a few days. We are hoping for good weather -probably better weather than the poor UK is having with Storm Eunice.
