sheltered

I went to pick some thyme and rosemary for the Greek Chickpea Stew I was making for tea, and found this shy wee primrose flowering in a sheltered part of the garden.

I'm thinking tonight of all those people in Wales and the South West who will be sheltering from Storm Eunice. I hope everyone stays safe.

We were fortunate not to have suffered any ill effects from Storm Dudley - the winds had died down a lot by this morning and now the weather is calm and dry. Sarah decided to return home from Surrey today instead of tomorrow and all seemed to be going ok until she messaged at lunchtime to say that the train was going to be terminated at Preston and the advice was to "abandon your journey", return to London and try again after the weekend! The train was very full and at Preston there were apparently 600 people trying to get to their destinations...At first it seemed unlikely that there would be alternative transport laid on, but eventually Sarah heard that 9 buses had been ordered and at 4.30 she was on one of them, heading for Carlisle and then a train to Dumfries just after 9pm. I'll bet she will be glad of that Chickpea Stew when she eventually gets home.

The disruption was caused by trees falling onto the overhead wires near Beattock. I saw a video of it on FB :-(
