Tuesday
Today, we visited Lovers Key State Park. Once destined to become the site of luxury condominiums, the land that is now Lovers Key State Park was donated to the people of Florida so that its beaches and mangrove forests can be preserved for all to enjoy. It has also become a popular spot for Gulf side weddings. We walked one of the hiking trails in the morning, much of it along the mangrove protected estuary. As we were looking at one of the boards, deciding which way to go, we detected some other English voices coming from two other couples. They were both British, though the one couple now lives in Vancouver. Not only that but the one couple grew up in my home city of Sheffield, and had their wedding reception at a restaurant just off the road I grew up on! Small world! We then headed to the beach, via a tram running along a boardwalk through the mangroves. Unfortunately, the afternoon clouded over somewhat, though it remained warm. It was also a great shelling beach, so I came back with a bag of shells. The Ospreys were on their nest near the beach
