‘The Lull before the Storm’
Went for another jog along the prom at Cramond at lunchtime.
First thing this morning, it didn’t look hopeful – rain and what a wind, too!
All the morning news broadcasts here were full of warnings of ‘Storm Dudley’ to come this evening, and announcing the cancellation of pretty well all trains this afternoon in anticipation. So I rather assumed that it was starting early,
But a careful look at the Met Office website suggested that there would be a bit of a hiatus in the stormy weather around lunchtime, so I planned my run accordingly. (I can cope with rain - just wear the right clothes, but battling storm force winds is another matter!)
And I was right. Yes, a bit of rain still, but the wind had disappeared! And the sea was miraculously calm again! (See extra)
When I went, after my run, to Cramond Village - my ‘local place’ (the former ferryman’s cottage can be seen across the River Almond) - the storm was obviously not far away. True, the rain that I’d been running in had stopped, leaving a dramatic sheen on the ground, and there was even a hint of blue in the sky.
But the sky still looked distinctly menacing - the storm was obviously not far away!
And came it did….
