Remembering JFK
More from our family walk at Runnymede yesterday. This is the memorial to President John F Kennedy, which was unveiled by the Queen in May 1965 some 18 months after JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The inscription is carved into a slab of Portland stone which sits on a granite base. It does look in need of a refresh. The stone has, of course, weathered but could do with a clean to ensure the inscription remains clearly legible. The acre of land in which the memorial is located was bequeathed to the American people in perpetuity - so it is possible to visit the USA without having to take a transatlantic flight! The supplementary picture shows the view beyond the nearby memorial to Magna Carta, funded by the American Bar Association.
