In 1924 the Clark Thread Company opened a recreation club for their workers and families and this was the mock Tudor clubhouse provided for members. All who worked for the company could be members and there were rugby, football and hockey pitches as well as tennis courts.

The hockry pitches have been built over and the tennis courts have become mini 5- a side football pitches but there are still rugby pitches. The connection with the Clark family has also passed long since.

The top photograph is as it is now and the bottom is an artist's impression of what it may have been like in its heyday.
