Fotheringhay castle

This is all that is left of the mott and Bailey castle that was such an important palace in its day . Richard the 3rd was born here in 1452 , and in 1556 / 7 Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded in the great hall . It’s so peaceful now and picturesque with a beautiful church that I shall visit later
