American Tree Sparrow

This American tree sparrow (Spizelloides arborea) is searching for seeds on the ice. I feel sorry for the birds when it gets bitter cold here this time of year. We did get a little relief over the past few days when the temperature climbed above freezing and allowed a lot of the snow to melt. Unfortunately, we got another blast of Arctic air last night, and the temperature fell back to just 5°F (-15°C). All of the standing water froze, and there is ice everywhere.
