Between fen and mountains

Cow on the mountain

It was less sunny today but I still went out in the morning to play tennis. I feel quite tired now after four days of hiking and tennis this week so plan to have a quiet weekend. I am pleased to have resolved a pension issue whereby I could not draw my pension in France without paying UK tax which I should not have to pay. In the end the pension company and HMRC agreed to talk to each other and I got a no tax code. I went up to the Mairie before tennis to apologise to the Maire over a misunderstanding. It had got back to me that it was felt I was ungrateful for repair work carried out in the street to resolve a damp problem in the house. I was in fact very grateful given there had been some ambiguity about the issue. The feeling of ingratitude was simply because I have claimed insurance on damage caused by the damp and the insurance company has decided to pursue the commune's insurers. So the claim is contested. Anyway, we were able to sort things out amicably and everyone left smiling with a 'bon weekend' offered all round. It is always a bad idea to fall out with a village Maire. They wield too much power and influence!
