Wast Water

Started out walking along Giggle Alley in nice calm conditions, patchy cloud, cold & breezy. The route was up to Wasdale for a view of Wast Water, along a high ridge then back down to the valley for the home stretch.

A 3 mile constant uphill through forest then over peat moors where the wind picked up the higher we got. At 520m we sheltered behind rocks for a break and amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Noticed that these mountains were starting to look increasingly white on top.

So we abandoned the rest of the route as it meant going higher, and headed back the way we came. By now the wind had stepped up a few gears, and the snow started, horizontal, stinging. Not worried as the visibility was ok and it was a clear path but so glad to get back to the shelter of the forest!

Home, tea, bath, pub, fire, food, wine, good!
