Yorkshire dales by rail

This weeks vintage poster recommends the visitor use London and North Eastern Railway 1923-48 to access "Gods Own Country". In recent years the L.N.E.R. name has been revived on the east coast railway from London to Edinburgh now by electric locomotives rather than steam. We used this route frequently in recent years though access was severely truncated from the mainline into the Dales by Beeching cuts in the 60s. Heritage lines are helping renew routes such as Wensleydale from Northallerton. We explored and camped in all the Dales in our VW Kombi in the 70s and 80s.
