2022 Sunday — “Hey Kid”

"Hey Kid, you wanna go up?"

Our pastor ended his sermon this morning with that question; it was the conclusion of an extended example he had threaded throughout his entire message. It was stunning, captivating, motivating, and at the same time quite emotional. I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes.

The example had started immediately as the message began -- a memory -- it was "movie scene vivid" of a little boy at an old time airport. He was the little boy. I was hooked.

Then throughout his message, just every now and then, he would pull the thread of that illustration and put in another stitch on the memory.

Several times he referred to going against the wind. As a bicycle rider I know about wind. Again several days ago I was reminded of wind as I walked out the long pier in our town; then at the end turned around to walk back. Instantly "Resistance" and "going-with-the-flow" both entered my thought.

My pastor started his message this morning when he told us that in his office he has a large wooden propellor. He ended his message with that question, "Hey kid, you wanna go up?"
