30k banked

Tonight looked questionable as to what result would equate with the low cloud, minus temps and sporadic snowfall. The question didn't get in the way of completing this ambitious trail & road route. I may have mentioned I met a few out going athletes who run ultra marathons so this is briefly what happened on tonights run...

We set off at 6pm knowing full well it gets dark at 8:30pm and even darker with this lack of sun. The trail started out amazing with a nice 3-5cm dusting over the ice to grip on. We headed East via the trails at Johnson lake and then pursued the Minnewanka loop via a slack country route in the forest where there actually was not a trail. Signs regarding an active Wolf pack, deep snow and sense of direction were all apparent.

By the time we got up to the massive lake Minnewanka we needed to head back as the run had taken considerably longer than expected. The road and trail back that was closed for wildlife got deeper and the night got darker. I felt really good though and enjoyed every minute despite the almost blue knees. Not sure if Gemma enjoyed the last section in the freezing temps, dark, snow and with the Wolf prints everywhere! And yes they were wolf prints not Coyote. NOr Bear or Cougar, however those guys are out and about and we thankfully didnt see any tracks.

This shot was of Lake Minnewanka hiding in the clouds.
