Sleeping beauty

Little Miss always seemed dead set against reading and has never been shy about letting us know that maths is 'her thing'. She fought against learning to read and, even though she was progressing steadily, she lacked confidence and she wanted to be really good at it immediately (possibly a trait of mine I hesitate to add).

However, in the past couple of months her confidence has soared along with her ability. She has finally learnt the joy of being able to read everything around her and she is working her way through her extensive bookcase very quickly. Indeed, at the start of the year, when she woke in the morning she would choose to colour or play with her toys, but now she gets herself a stack of books and we can hear her reading to herself. It really is the nicest sound in the world.

This particular moment made me smile as I remember adopting a very similar position on the sofa to read when I was probably not much older than her!
