Singles Sunday
Vinyl Sunday IV
This month everyone who wanted to brought along a few single records to play. It was very interesting to hear about people's choices.
My first choice was given to me at the age of 11 by a guy who was apologising for giving me another dead leg on top of an existing one. Other people's shares included gifts from first boyfriends, first single bought; other's talked of items of collector interest, musicians background and musical family tree.
It was great to see the choices influencing other's choices linking items in some way. As is part of the groups ethos, I chanced playing a un-played genre to the group, which enabled others to take bit more of a risk too. Modern jazz/ soul, dub and reverb, I sensed it was not to everyone's taste.
Agreed a great success by all we have scheduled another one in the future. We also decided to create a WhatsApp group. The dog, called Olive is now a regular too!
1. The Undertones You've got my number (why don't you use it) 7"
2. Joe Armon-Jones Starting today (dub version) 12"
Church & Accession Day
Morning praise for everyone (MPE) today, which means it's led by a reader (lay preacher) rather than a vicar here. A nice change to have a reader from another church.
Coinciding with The Queen's 70th anniversary of accession to the throne, we ended up standing to sing our national anthem, accompanied by our organist. The Queen as monarch heads the Church of England.
Our Queen, the antithesis to our Prime Minister. The contrast could hardly be bigger.
