A dalek keeps an eye on the chickens
The chickens were all rather busy with the barrow load of weeds I had just given them.
In the foreground, the freshly dug allium bed, which provided the weeds, is almost ready for the shallots and garlic. Just needs some fertilizer and more organic matter added to keep them happy and I can then plant them out.
They are restricted to 2 m² this year as I need to keep them covered with the frame you can see behind. Hopefully this will protect them from the allium leaf miner, which was rife on our site last year.
Allotmenteering makes me very aware of the fragility of subsistence farming. When my onion crops fails, I have the option of the co-op.
