A great trunk and 50 years ago today

Weather once again very iffy so we took a trip out to Broadway and had some lunch.

Spotted this tree in a garden on the high street and thought the trunk was worthy of a shot and my Blip for the day. Looks to have worked better in mono.

The extra may appeal more to Bliper RIVERSIDER but 50 years ago today Hereford United beat Newcastle United at Edgar Street in Hereford. it was a giant killing by Hereford that has featured on TV many times and the goals can be seen on YouTube.

I was lucky enough to get a ticket ( 50p admission !!!!! On how times have changed ) and pay 5p for the programme.

The goal looks great still but I was lucky enough to be standing on the terrace behind the goal where Ron Radford scored his thunderbolt of a shot. So I saw it from a different angle, watched the Newcastle keeper dive high and right with his fingers stretched in the air and just miss the ball.

The rest is history and a long time ago but the video misses the atmosphere and a view of the goal I saw. Hereford went 1 nil down with 8 mis to go to the end of the match. Newcastle celebrated and the home spectators were silenced. Then they began to chant Hereford, Hereford, Hereford, louder and louder and then Radford struck the ball and in it went and then a pitch invasion commenced.

Extra time and then Ricky George hit the winner into the same goal I was standing behind.

Such a long time ago but an unforgettable memory.

RIVERSIDER I expect a heart from you if you have any left. I’m sure there were a great many supporters of Hereford in Middlesbrough that day.
