Protect and Survive
On the wall in my study sits the banner that I made in the 1980s. It wasn't cruise missiles that got me into CND and our local anti- nuclear group, but the publication of Protect and Survive and the idea we could survive a nuclear war.
As you can no doubt guess I was and remain no fan of Maggie Thatcher and I shed no tears. I saw the destruction of steel and coal in Yorkshire. Communities disintegrated and unemployment was simply a price worth paying.
Her politics were horrendous and our Tory boy government are her direct descendants. I'm rather more interested in getting rid of them than I am in the death of this shadow of her former divisive self.
I will try be a bit less divisive myself tomorrow.
