Scarlet
Tucked away in a very scabby patch of soil in my garden is the plant that produces these eye-catching berries. Iris foetidissima 'Citrina'. The bright berries last for months (maybe they're not tasty to the average bird?) although the pale yellow flowers are a little dull. Luckily they bloom when there are plenty of floral distractions, and the splitting seed pods and berries provide a wonderful splash of colour in the autumn and winter.
I should explain the backdrop - when my derelict garden was remodelled last year the gardener dug up loads of Cambridge yellow bricks - which our terrace is built from - and they’ve sat in a diminishing pile on the patio ever since. I’d knocked off the iris seeds and, rather than chuck them out, I stuck them in a pot. Hence a stage for today’s blip…
Wishing you all a very happy weekend fellow blippers
