Camões
The agenda whilst on Ilha de Moçambique is largely empty and open, letting recent work responsibilities wash away and starting to think about the next challenge. Today has largely been spent sitting, lounging, reposing and strolling.
Luís Vaz de Camões is considered the Portuguese language’s greatest poet and found himself on Ilha de Moçambique for a couple of years around 1570. This statue of Camões, looking very Shakespearean, is in a small triangular patch on the eastern side of the island, facing the vastness of the Indian Ocean. Aside from the reposing and relaxing, walking to this statue was the main accomplishment of the day.
