Dunbar Parish Church

There was a church in Dunbar as early as 1176 when it was described as Ecclesia de Dunbar but in the 14th century it became a collegiate church under the proprietorship of Patrick, 9th earl of Dunbar. A century later it became forfeit the crown but was enjoyed by the Duke of Albany during the reign of James III of Scotland. It reverted to the Dunbars in 1463 and stayed that way until the Protestant reformation in 1560.

Much repair and renewal work was carried out on the church over the centuries until lit looked like a hybrid of Saxon, Gothic and Norman architecture. However, a new church was built in 1819-21 and still stands today.
