Black Lounge Singer

This is my late mother's trusty old 'Singer' sewing machine. She was always sewing things when I was a child; mending clothes etc.

She told me years ago where she got it, but, sadly I've long since forgotten. I know she got it in the 1950's or early '60's. And it was new (maybe even a gift from my father).

After my mother died, My sister got the sewing machine, but when I last visited my sister, she literally handed it to me, as I was walking out the door (which wouldn't have been easy, because it's HEAVY!) saying "here, take this would you, I've got no room for it anymore".

And so (or sew?) it's now spending it's retirement in my spare room, in it's original box (apart from being brought to the lounge for a photo).

It still works, but unfortunately, I haven't the knack, or the patience for sewing, so it's use now is purely ornamental.

But it brings back cherished memories.
