It was 15 degrees F (-9.4C) when I woke up this morning. After cooking and eating breakfast and dressing to depart it was 21 degrees. I put on the alpaca socks, leggings, long sleeve t-shirt and hoodie, and gaiter with lined blue jeans & a coat. Within five minutes I unzipped the coat because I was too warm. I think I'm ok for standard September in Iceland. The average low in September in Iceland is 44 degrees, not accounting for wind chill.
Twice in 2021 I watched crows harass a hawk and chase it away. Today I saw them sitting together. It took me a couple of seconds to mentally process what I was seeing or I would have photographic proof.
What I learned in cooking today:
When did I last cook something other than aebleskiver and eggs? I don't know. In the Before Times we did all of our grocery shopping in two stores so maybe everyone shopping in larger, standard grocery stores already knew this. It is now possible to get bags of chopped, frozen onions. I'm one of those very sensitive people who can't handle having onions chopped while I'm in the house. Early in our relationship, 185 or so years ago, we experimented. Even if I was upstairs with the window open and bread in my mouth, my eyes would burn and water if Karen cut onions.
We are still getting our groceries delivered. They accidentally brought us 12 bulbs of garlic. I like garlic a lot but that is a bit more than I think I can finish so I offered it to my neighbor. Perfect timing - she had a dish planned and had everything she needed except garlic and really didn't want to go to the grocery store for one thing.
Lots of garlic and onions in my near time future. Vampires stay away.
I don't know if the crow is one who visits me or not. She is standing on a decline behind a concrete barrier. I think the head tilt looks flirtatious.
