Soar

I love watching the Turkey Vultures soaring overhead, taking advantage of the thermals! I know that some consider them with disdain, labeling them 'dirty', but I think of them as Majestic! They are very large birds that, although clumsy looking on the ground, fly with beauty and grace. 
Here are some fun Vulture Facts:
A group of vultures is called a committee, venue or volt. In flight, a flock of vultures is a kettle and when they are feeding together at a carcass, the group is called (appropriately enough) a wake. Vultures have bare heads and necks so that bacteria and parasites can't burrow under thick feathers and cause infection. Their stomach acid is stronger and more corrosive than any other animal's or bird's, capable of killing any dangerous bacteria ingested. Vultures urinate on their legs and feet to cool off on hot days and to kill any bacteria or parasites they've picked up from their dining habits. They have no voice box and are nearly silent. They can make grunts, hisses, bill clacks to communicate. They have relatively weak legs and feet and aren't able to carry food back to their young. So they regurgitate to feed the kids.
