Harmony

It was rather a wild windy night and it continued to be blustery this morning, which proved a bit of nuisance when we were trying to carry out the  annual RSPB Big  Garden Birdwatch on our patch, and the birds were hunkering down. That, and a neighbour's cat  prowling around  behind the birdfeeders, and then  climbing over the pergola where the birds like to perch, during the hour we were watching,  meant our species  count was only eleven. However, we did count six House Sparrows ( we didn't  record any a year ago) which was pleasing. They have definitely  taken  up permanent residency in our  two  Swift boxes.

This afternoon I headed off to visit my Mother for a few days. Just before I left, my husband noticed the first of the Iris reticulata "Harmony" bulbs  had come into  flower. They are such exquisite little flowers. I like to keep  them outdoors, so they last longer, but at a height  where they can be admired easily.
