A victory for Italy, but yet another defeat for the political parties.

Mattarella is by far the best person to hold the position, but he had said over and over again that he didn't want a second term.
Also, although not prohibited by law, a second term it's an institutional taboo, as an honorary position that was born as a guarantee of the Constitution is charged with presidentialism.

But the parties do not know how to talk to each other, they have been in disarray since Mattarella had announced his unavailability for a second term. So today Draghi asked Mattarella to stay, and called the party leaders, giving the ok to vote Mattarella this afternoon.

Naturally all the party leaders have declared this victory in their name...squalor...

I am very happy for Mattarella's re-election! Man of great competence, empathy and dignity.
