Mural

At dusk Michelle and I could be found loitering on a litter-strewn stretch of Avenida Zedequias Manganhela, craning and checking for fruit bat activity over the fence in Jardim Tunduru. The Garden is still closing at 3pm in a particularly persistent early Covid regulation, but we were still able to see that as it got duskier, bat movement increased. It was good seeing them stir and start their nocturnal activity. The colony spends its days suspended and jostling over the paths and bushes in a particular corner of the garden.

Downtown Maputo (Baixa) is good for strolls. We’d already clocked a few streets buried within Baixa where they’re trying to overhaul the insalubrious reputation through some colourful murals.
