Spending a penny at Copley
Today's walk took me over the snowy Greetland Moor Bottom and down through the woods to Copley village. The village was built in 1849 by Colonel Edward Akroyd, the local woollen mill owner.
The village had a mill, "decent houses" for the workforce, as well as a canteen, a school, a library and a church.
The Toll House, which is opposite the church is dated 1833.
The walk took me then on the canal path to Salterhebble Basin (I managed not to fall in), through North Dean Woods and Clay House and home. Not forgetting the cafe at the garden centre - but no jam or scones today!
