I couldn’t waste the milk!

I didn’t check the ‘use by’ date on the bottle of Gold top milk I bought on Saturday 22nd - it was the 23rd! ‘Best before’ I ignore - use my own judgement - it won’t  kill me. But ‘Use by’…… that’s different!
So, what to do with a litre of lovely thick creamy milk? I drank some in the evening and used some on my cereal on Sunday morning as usual, but still had half of it - so, I made egg custard !
Not only nice to eat but full of memories as I made it.
When my Mum was alive we used to do Sunday dinner alternately in her house and mine. On my days I was working through a recipe book of Favourite Pudding Recipes many of which used custard  - one we particularly liked was Moonshine - a very rich version of Bread and Butter Pudding.
Most of the recipes served four so we would have a portion each on Sunday then Mum took one home with her so we could have it again the next day or pop it in the freezer ( or, if it wasn’t suitable to keep - we ate half each !!! )
Mum died in April 2002 and I don’t think I have used the recipes since  - we didn’t finish the book!
The extras show the cover and index with the ones we had done ticked - and the one we didn’t like noted too!
PS I made four custards - ate one Sunday, one Today, the other two are  for Tomorrow when my friend is coming for lunch
