Toutouwai (South Island Robin, NZ)

Our New Zealand Robin doesn't have the showy red breast of the rest of the world, but they are a darling wee bird. Really inquisitive and friendly. They are only seen in areas of native bush, and usually in the high country. I have very much missed them over the past few years that I've lived in South Cantrrbury.

Today I was sitting outside a friend's camper in Nelson Lakes National Park having a chat when this little one showed up. I only had my phone with me so the photo is disappointing, but it was pretty exciting to see it. From now on my camera will be permanently attached to me while I'm at the lake!
