2022 Sunday — Loom Knitting

I spent much of yesterday knitting my first ever loom-knitted hat (well, it was supposed to be a hat). This was a gift from my granddaughter. I had seen several things she had made and I was intrigued and interested. So she gifted me with a kit.

I started working on this several days ago, but only had short spans of time. So, I worked with this yarn and loom yesterday for quite a while. I really thought I was making progress; then I saw the “holes” where I had obviously missed a stitch or did something wrong.

So, this afternoon I contemplated for a long time and made the decision to unravel the whole thing. Ugh! I’m chalking up all of yesterday’s "loom" knitting (see small photo) to good practice.

Now, I’ve started again and this time I’m trying to check the “knitted fabric” carefully after a few times around the loom to make sure there are no holes or weird knots or clumps.

Honestly, when I first saw the two circular looms that came with the kit, I thought, “Heck, this will be easy.” I really thought it would take no skill, no talent, just time and a decent attention span. I've seen people knit with knitting needles and that looked like it would require talent, skill, maybe giftedness . . . and the beautiful garments they create -- Wow!

Gosh, was I wrong about loom knitting. It is more than just twisting yarn around little pegs. I don’t think I am too old to learn a new trick, but this has made me think that might be a lie. Okay, I'm kidding!

In this photo, I have the circular loom resting between my knees because it is awkward for me to use it flat on a table or desktop.

So, this is my progress so far as I make my second attempt at this.
