Descending from Dinorwic
We're enjoying exploring Snowdonia, and today we went to visit the abandoned Dinorwic Quarry. We parked at the Slate Museum in Llanberis and started a very big climb in search of the Anglesey Barracks which you can see in my extras.
The Barracks were used to accommodate the quarry workers from 1870-1948, they used to bring the workers over from Anglesey on a Monday with enough provisions for the week, and they would stay there and work all work, going home on a Saturday. They had no running water or electricity and eventually in 1948 they were condemned as not fit for habitation. Apparently there's also a building somewhere that has old boots, and other relics - I've seen photos but have no idea where this building is, so I asked numerous people that we passed, but no-one knew about it. We continued our client following some instructions I'd found on FB, but still couldn't find it. By the time we'd climbed about 700ft we stopped to enjoy the view, and saw a lady with a 'Snowdon Staff' jacket on, so I asked her and she pointed out where she thinks it is. It was another major climb, but we decided to leave that for another day! There is a car park much higher up, so next time we'll park there and tackle it from there.
It was really interesting and there's so much to explore up there, with tunnels and more old buildings, there's also a very blue lake with waterfalls, but the view is amazing and this was on a very murky day, so I can only imagine what it will be on a clear day. My Blip is taken on our descent looking down on Llyn Peris and the mountain is Clogwyn Mawr, Snowdon sits behind here, but you can't see it because of the cloud.
Once back at Bertie I cooked venison burgers for a rather late lunch, we were both rather tired and thoroughly enjoyed them!
