In The Swim

Today we drove up the Aniseed Valley looking for a river swimming spot.  We found this spot at the Busch Reserve.  There is easy access to the Roding River and this dam of stones has been made to create the swimming pool.  In places it was over my head.  Delightfully it was not freezing.  There were several families enjoying it.  The extra is a discreet peep at the fun.  We will be back.  
A history lesson from a notice board we read: Hans Heinrich Busch and Dorothea Busch arrived with 5 of their 13 children at Nelson aboard the Danish ship Skoid after sailing from Hamburg with 140 German immigrants on 21st April 1844.  They arrived on 1st September 1844 and waded ashore at Tahunanui Beach.  He eventually owned a 500 acre farm in the Aniseed valley.  His house was on this reserve overlooking the Roding River.  Hans and Dorothea were buried here in 1873 and 1880.  
It has been an eventful day for other reasons.  This morning the Prime Minister announced Omicron is in the community.  It has come into my region via a family who attended a wedding in Auckland.  How the virus got from the boarder to the city is yet to be found.  It was always going to happen so we keep calm and carry on.  An interesting side effect is that the Prime Ministers own wedding has been postponed.  Now only gatherings of 100 are allowed.  I heard from my son and daughter today which shows how small our country is.  An announcement like this affects everyone.  The lovely daughter will still go into the office but the son is encouraged to work from home.  He is weighing up about sending Finn to daycare.  Heigh ho and on we go.
