Snowy April bouldering in the Lake District
Team Glasgow went down to the Lake District today to meet Team Yorkshire for some bouldering at the 'Lad Stones' on the southern flank of Wetherlam, near Coniston.
We've been going climbing in the lakes for nearly 10 years now and have spent a lot of time at most of the classic, easy access crags. So what's next..? Well the new and exciting climbing seems to revolve around 'mountain bouldering', not normally the preserve of the boulderer as it involves putting on your walking boots and going for a bit of hike.
In December last year we had a fantastic day out at the Gillercombe Boulders that got me raving about climbing in these beautiful high places where there aren't too many other people about. Today was no exception and we enjoyed wide open skies, solitude and very pleasant April sunshine.
In today's blip my pal Will is climbing a hard route called Traci Lords (don't ask - we don't come up with the names...) which is graded Font 8a. We all got some good climbs done and I even managed to scrape my way up the classic Font 7b+ of the crag which was good as it doesn't happen too often for me, especially not in a day.
