Curly Fries

Today was the opening day of the Bellingham Farmers Market summer season. Cynthia and I were there with loaded cameras firing away. As usual she took way more photos than I did -- she's the official photographer, and I'm just a deputy.

There were lots of interesting new vendors. I was intrigued by this device powered by an electric drill. It pushes the potato through a metal die, creating long, thin strips, which when deep-fried become curly fries. The business is aptly named Curly.

I have no idea why the young woman was sporting a fake mustache.

I didn't buy any curly fries, but I did buy a dozen oysters from Drayton Harbor Community Shellfish Farm. We had some of them for dinner, with salad and a black olive baguette from Edison Bread Farm. The liquid accompaniment was Dogfish Head Noble Rot -- a delicious and very unusual beer.

It was another good day.
