Renovations

The magpies seem to have started renovating last year's nest - it had suffered a certain amount of damage from a concerted attack by crows (pecking twigs from the top). Also the squirrels had been investigating it, occasionally nipping inside. But the magpies have reclaimed it - they are around a lot of the time, a pair of them, with one doing the major building work while the other one sits in a neighbouring tree. Interestingly, for such noisy birds, they're doing this in complete silence.

Due to the twiggy nature of the nest and the fact that the magpie was inside it a lot of the time, I couldn't get a decent shot of the bird - it's there, top left of the structure, but with none of its white feathers visible.
