Cicada
An exoskeleton of a cicada nymph on the leaf of a punga. It’s much more common to see them on tree trunks. Cicadas and summer go together but I don’t think I’ve ever heard them as loud as they currently are in the forest. No doubt our run of hot dry weather has encouraged the nymphs to emerge from the ground where they’ve spent the last three to five years.
