Watching the Sun go down...

Today we slipped down to Ham Wall RSPB reserve again to meet up with Sheol and Cathy, and to test out the capabilities of the new FE 200-600 G OSS (currently honoured with the nickname Hubble).

Gods, the roads to Ham Wall are not the best, but a significant closure of one road meant a brief diversion, which was planned for.  But the two other un-notified road closures, had Sally Satnav taking us around in circles for the best part of an hour!

However, we finally made it in, and met up with our birdie buddies. I'm putting a main and an extra, but we did of course see hundreds of wild fowl and at least one marsh harrier (been there done that).

At one point I watched an almost unseen small bird hopping about in a tree, and since Sheol has mentioned it I give you a very pushed shot of a Goldcrest. Common as muck some places but not to me.

The main (full frame, no crop) was taken after Sheol and Cathy had gone home, but before the murmuration display we stayed behind for. This squirrel had raced across our path and had taken to the trees.

He's about twenty feet up, and is watching the Sun go down, quite still and observant. I absolutely understand his reverence. Do go Large...
