Finding My Bearings

Yes, it IS rocket science!

Back in 1998, my mother had a friend who worked at NASA and she got us tickets to watch the Discovery space shuttle launching from the Kennedy Space Centre, on its final mission to the Mir Space Station, as we were on holiday in Florida at the time. Needless to say, it was an amazing experience and I bought two mugs from the gift shop to mark the occasion - as you do! Unfortunately, my favourite one broke many years ago but I brought this one into school today, to hold my whiteboard pens. It seemed fitting for a science classroom!

Several years later, we went to see the Endeavour shuttle, which had been decommissioned and was on display at the California Science Centre. One of the schools I used to work at had named their 'houses' after space shuttles and my form was in Endeavour. This video of how they got the Endeavour through the streets of Los Angeles to the Science Centre is fascinating!
