Nostalgia
On this date, in 2011, about 4:30 in the morning, a tiny wild tortie cat ran into my house carrying a kitten. I was on my way out the door, so stuck them in the bathroom with a warm blanket and some water and food. Later that day, with the help of some neighbors, we searched and found the fate of her other kittens. She had managed to save this one large boy, and even though she was completely feral, she had trusted people just enough to know that inside a house was the only safe place.
Silha, the mom, is still very tiny and, though no longer afraid of me, is not a friendly cat. She enjoys the company of the other cats very much, though, so she is welcome to live out her days here!
Rooster has grown into a giant butthole (meant in the most endearing way) of a cat. He is fearless and funny and has an unhealthy love of crackers (lock them away!).
The pair moved with me a few days after to a new place a couple hours away. That same week a small kitten was found abandoned/separated from its mother. Silha adopted him instantly, absolutely no hesitation! Chicken is small and timid just like Silha (and oh so sweet!).
I celebrate the boys' birthday on the 10th, by the way, since I don't know their real birthdays. April 10th, 1996 another tiny kitten named Booger was born. She was from the first litter I ever fostered and a sad precedent that helping cats usually ended with me having more cats. I lost Booger last year right before her birthday, so when the boys' first birthday loomed close, I decided they could share Booger's. It's a nice way to remember her!
Now... maybe I will get a nice pic of Chicken and Rooster together to celebrate their birthday. They rarely pair off together, so it's a week-long effort :P
