Balloons

Really impressive balloon sculpture in the main hall of the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street, Edinburgh. Specially commissioned for the Edinburgh Science Festival it was made by the New York artist, Jason Hackenwerth, and is entitled Pisces. It was created with more than 10,000 coloured balloons and hangs over 40 feet tall from the roof of the historic hall. The installation represents the artist's interpretation of the legend of Aphrodite and Eros.
In other news, after my pessimism about the football earlier in the week, my team, Dundee United, only did it with a late late goal to beat Aberdeen at Tannadice. With Dundee winning at Kilmarnock, United sneaked into the top six for the league split, and there is still all to play for - third place is possible. And a cup semi to look forward to as well, albeit against Celtic who have hammered us twice already this season. Very impressed that Dundee won, as they seem relegated in all but name, and a defeat would have guaranteed another Dundee derby as well as another game against Aberdeen. Now watching the game on BBC Alba - a quirk of TV scheduling that one SPL game is shown 'as live' at tea-time on Saturdays. Only snag is that the commentary is in Gaelic. Not sure quite why the game is on at all, and given that it is, why in Gaelic only, when so few people in Scotland speak it. But then again BBC Scotland does seem to spend a disproportionate amount of time and resources on Gaelic programming - possibly a reflection of the high number of Gaelic speakers working in BBC Scotland? Anyway, it looks like a game that would have been a nightmare to watch live, with lots of chances for the home team and the away goalkeeper in top form. Especially when the news of Dundee' performance came through. Much more relaxed able to watch it knowing the score!
