Turned out ok in the end.

After checking the English Heritage website, we drove for an hour to visit Bayham Abbey ,we were met with a large closed sign. We checked the website again to be told it was open, it wasn’t. We chatted to the driver in front who had done the same. Fortunately National Trust property Scotney castle is close by so we drove there instead.
