Nature Diary... Good Morning!

The day dawned grey and gloomy with a feeling of dampness in the air. The sea looked dark and dull, as did the sky. We sat and watched as a thin slither of curved light appeared, shining through the dark grey of the sky. Slowly it grew in size, adding colours and looking like a helmet. Increasing in size it then became a sphere, bringing colour and light to the sky and growing steadily bigger and brighter as it gradually moved higher and higher. The sun. The surreal multicoloured shape in the sky which had attracted our attention was in fact... the sun.

We watched as the darkness of the sky lightened and colours appeared in the clouds. Dark shapes on the sea appeared as ships, and birds became visible as daylight increased. 50 minutes from the first glimpse of a most unusual coloured shape in the sky the world was back to its normal daytime self as the sun brought its light and its warmth to Planet Earth once more.

(The Extra shows the first interesting/unusual glimpses of the rising sun).
