Birthday chocolates
Today one of our neighbours is celebrating her 99th birthday. I understand that she sometimes takes a look at my photographs of Life in Newburgh on Ythan. Just in case she looks in today, here is a box of chocolates to wish her A Very Happy Birthday!
The box, sadly now empty of chocolates, was made for Rowntree of York. It is made of tinplate painted with a scene of Japanese ladies standing and sitting under a cherry tree in an oriental garden. The tin belonged to my grandmother and probably celebrated its own 99th birthday some years ago. The fact that we still have it bears testimony to my mother's great skill as a hoarder!
