Bedside Reading (Thursday 13th January 2022)

There was more blue sky on Thursday that I intended to exploit, but by the time I'd finished working through all the pictures I'd taken the day before and had meals etc. the light had gone. Instead, here is a quickie snap of current reading fare, alongside the monthly music magazines of which there is a huge backlog.

Probably worth noting that Winterwatch returns on Tuesday (18th) for a fortnight.

This was one of the concerts I attended with my friend Charlotte while working for the BBC nearby, before their debut self-titled album had been released, with their classic line up. After the fourth number Chrissie Hynde said, "The madcap laughs" (pronouncing it 'modcap'), the title of a Syd Barrett album. Johnny Rotten was in the audience. They were great and I have followed their career ever since, and that of Chrissie Hynde, their singer, leader and songwriter, who was from Akron OH. This sounds as if it was copied from an off-air cassette copy, unfortunately, but is of personal historic interest. The support act was Simple Minds. The Pretenders set can now be found on a 2021 3CD edition of their 1979 first album, hopefully from a rather better source.
P.S. Here is a different sounding mix posted in October 2021, possibly same as on the new 3CD as they give the same wrong date for the recording.
